Skyline On the Horizon – Pioneer Millworks Unveils Sustainable Modular Cladding System

Skyline is a versatile and adjustable wood cladding system based on over 30 years of building material experience and sustainable principles.

Pioneer Millworks, a Rochester-based manufacturer of sustainable and recycled wood flooring, paneling, and siding, has introduced a new commercial wall cladding solution.

Skyline is a versatile and adjustable wood cladding system based on over 30 years of building material experience and sustainable principles. Skyline, designed with a multitude of purposes in mind, is suitable for commercial or residential, interior or exterior, urban or pastoral settings, and is only limited by your design intent. Skyline is available in a wide range of lengths, widths, and milling heights, allowing for an endless number of combinations and applications. Skyline’s versatility and ease of use are equally vital, as is its carefully sourced substrate.

Skyline external siding is FSC-certified and made of cradle-to-cradle gold Accoya, a high-quality material known for its endurance, rot resistance, and durability. Accoya is a stable wood that may be easily installed, regardless of design or purpose. The Skyline exterior is prefinished in three colors, with two coats on the front and one on the back. The cladding is extremely durable and easy to refinish over time.

Skyline is available in nine bespoke colors inspired by spectacular metropolitan landscapes from throughout the world, suitable for installation in interior applications. This FSC-certified hardwood comes prefinished in a natural low-VOC matte finish that creates depth of color and shadow. The paneling is intended to be mixed and matched in color and dimension—choose clashing hues for a unique style, or tone-on-tone for a more subtle effect.

“We wanted to create a dimensional paneling option in wood that allowed designers to really play,” says Pioneer Millworks Operations Manager Jonathan Taylor, who helped develop Skyline. “Yes, we are wood people, so we were going to use wood in some way to create Skyline.” But which woods sparked a genuine conversation. Which species would provide enough stability for this tongue and grooved slat system to function and be simply placed, allowing designers to concentrate on color, depth, and shadow? And then there’s the desire to use real wood with no binding chemicals or plastics for the sake of the environment and human health—the choices are deliberate. We think that this offers designers the ability to experiment and build some wonderful dimensional landscapes in wood.”

Pioneer Millworks Skyline cladding offers a wide range of valuable strategies for designers, builders, and homeowners. Its intrinsic characteristics prioritize sustainability, adaptability, and innovation while changing exterior and interior siding design.
