LP Announces $150 Million Investment in OSB Mill Conversion in Maine

Louisiana Pacific Corp. plans to invest $150 million in converting its LP Houlton Maine OSB mill into a SmartSide engineered wood strand siding manufacturing facility.

The facility will stop producing laminated strand lumber products for its EWP division next year and begin producing SmartSide in 2022.

According to LP’s Breeanna Straessle, “we estimate that this conversion will increase our locally sourced annual fiber consumption by about 30%, which of course benefits the supply chain in the local community.”

Around $110 million of the total will be spent on new machinery, with the remaining $40 million on facility improvements.
