OpenSpace, the global leader in reality capture and AI-powered analytics, has launched OpenSpace BIM+, a new tool designed to improve coordination between Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and field teams.
This product uses OpenSpace’s AI and computer vision technologies to match 360° pictures with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and contains a slew of features that help teams dramatically improve field-to-office BIM coordination.
BIM has been widely adopted in the design and engineering industries, but its application by field teams has been limited due to its complexity and the technical understanding required. OpenSpace BIM+ fills this void by providing a version of BIM designed specifically for field use. The solution includes user-friendly 3D tools that make everyday operations easier and allow construction teams to manage on-site coordination difficulties without needing substantial BIM knowledge or relying on a VDC manager for simple questions.
OpenSpace BIM+ key features:
- On-site BIM Analysis: Tools such as Saved Views, BIM Compare, BIM Element Overlay, Point Cloud Viewing, and an Offline-enabled Mobile BIM Viewer make it simple to traverse BIM models on building sites and compare them with actual site conditions.
- BIM Field Coordination: BIM-based Field Notes enhance communication while streamlining approval processes and project scheduling. A BCF Export capability enables information transmission with other BIM coordinating tools.
- Model Management: Autodesk Model Import and Multiple Models Management provide easy access to current models, as well as the option to view only the relevant elements of the models for specific teams, such as MEP systems.
Over 900 clients have experienced OpenSpace BIM+ features and are pleased with how this new tool enables project teams to solve problems more quickly by comparing as-built conditions to design intent in the office and on the construction site. Kyle Tomak, VDC Manager at Hensel Phelps, mentioned that, “A huge goal is to have our field and operations staff put the model into practice. We want them to go to exactly where they need to be on an initial inspection of a certain MEP system by looking at the model. We’re excited about how OpenSpace BIM+ supports our QC workflows.”
