Makita U.S.A., Inc., a manufacturer of high-quality professional tools, outdoor power equipment, and accessories, has introduced the new MAKTRAK Modular Storage System. MAKTRAK is designed, engineered, and manufactured in the United States using worldwide materials. It boasts a number of distinguishing features, including a horizontal design that redefines the category.
“Users across the country told us about their many challenges with the vertical-first design-based modular storage systems that are ubiquitous in the market today, and we listened,” said Andrew Camp, director of product management, accessories at Makita U.S.A., Inc. “Following this unambiguous customer feedback, we built and engineered a horizontal-first design-based modular storage system that answers their concerns and delivers to market a product line that we feel is a transformative solution that creates enormous user value. MAKTRAK is the next generation of modular storage, having been researched, planned, engineered, and manufactured in the United States.
MAKTRAK Powered by Four Core Functions
The MAKTRAK Modular Storage System is designed and manufactured around four primary functions:
- Transport: Premium handle with Gecko Grips allows for efficient loading and unloading.
- Access: The horizontal dual-hinge lid offers access to each case without unstacking or interruption from the handle.
- Store: The horizontal shape provides more inner area for larger tools and accessories.
- Organize: Personalized with lid mounting points, molle panel dividers, stacked bins, and battery/charger storage trays.
New Features for Truck Owners
Transportation is a key function of a modular storage system. MAKTRAK’s 9″ all-terrain job site robust wheels allow for simple travel through a job site or across finished flooring. The purposeful horizontal box design, along with the distinctive retractable handle, allows a single user to load and unload their MAKTRAK into a truck bed.
“Difficulty loading and unloading into the truck bed is a common complaint with vertical base systems. Users routinely disassemble their systems to load each component individually. “Leaving the tool boxes scattered takes up more space and makes it difficult to work from the truck,” said Austin Donoghue, Makita U.S.A., Inc.’s product manager for accessories.
“With the novel handle grips, a contractor can easily load and unload their system without having to disconnect boxes. And, depending on the stacking position, it will fit beneath most truck bed covers, providing added security. Whether working from the truck or driving from shop to job site, MAKTRAK converts the pick-up truck into a trade instrument.”
Additional Features for More Convenience and Efficiency
There are other qualities that are unique to this category. MAKTRAK allows users to open storage boxes and access tools and accessories without having to unstack them. The dual-hinging lids provide access from both sides, and the revolutionary horizontal design ensures that the handle does not get in the way. In addition, the horizontal form provides greater storage space. This means that MAKTRAK can handle larger instruments such as nailers, saws, and rotary hammers. At the same time, the modest depth provides better accessibility.
Additional distinguishing features include the side-to-side interlocking connection, which allows attachment from either direction. This easy connecting technique, combined with the various tool box sizes, allows for a multitude of stacking arrangements. The interior organizing components include molle panel dividers, battery storage tool trays, and a lid with mounting points for alternative dividers, bins, bit sets, and other storage options. These extensive organizational features provide customers with the greatest flexibility in configuring their own modular storage system.
The MAKTRAK System consists of the following components, with further organizational tools and parts on the way. The system is made of impact-resistant polymers and designed to survive harsh job site conditions. It also includes large glove-friendly locks for quick access.
