Rogers-O’Brien Construction Announces Employee Safety Pilot Program Utilizing SafeGuard Technology

RO, Texas’ Leading Builder, is pleased to announce the commencement of a pilot program leveraging SafeGuard, a Safety-as-a-Service platform for real-time health and safety risk assessment.

Non-invasive wearables linked to SafeGuard continuously monitor employees on job sites to prevent heat exhaustion, lowering the likelihood of related injuries. RO is the first general contractor to participate in this program, alongside Boeing, the United States Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Wearable sensors are combined with physiological and environmental monitoring to predict and handle potential safety issues before they become a problem. The unique intelligent guardian software provides comprehensive workforce protection through individualized warning and intuitive data visualizations. When suitable sensors, such as a Polar armband, Garmin watch, or Apple watch, identify indicators of overheating or abnormal heart rates in workers, both the individual and their safety manager receive an alert instructing them to take a break and drink. Realizing that many workers refuse to take much-needed breaks, it becomes critical for safety managers to intervene when sensors detect harmful thresholds in accordance with industry safety requirements.

“We’re pioneering a new era of worker safety,” said Todd Wynne, Chief Innovation Officer. “SafeGuard technology empowers us to prevent heat-related risks and protect our employees like never before. As the first general contractor to adopt this game-changing solution, we’re setting a precedent for the industry and demonstrating our unwavering commitment to sending everyone home each day.”

SafeGuard focuses on monitoring health and safety without judging work performance or tracking breaks. By adhering to HIPAA regulations, the platform ensures data protection and enhanced security safeguards.

RO wants to drastically minimize heat-related dangers in the construction business, where 20 lives are lost yearly due to heat exhaustion, with this pilot initiative launched across three large job sites in Texas.* RO’s commitment to employee safety delivers great quality and service for clients. This ground-breaking initiative demonstrates RO’s commitment to establishing a safer work environment that benefits both workers and clients.
